CPI professional licence (carte professionnelle)

The carte professionnelle CPI is the French licence required to act as an intermediary in the activities governed by the loi Hoguet, Act no. 70-9 of 2 January 1970. Its “Transactions sur immeubles et fonds de commerce” endorsement (property and business transactions) allows the holder to assist, on a regular basis, in buying or selling buildings, businesses (fonds de commerce) and non-tradable shares in companies that own them. It is issued by the local chamber of commerce and industry (CCI), or the departmental CCI in the Paris region, and renewed every three years.

Conditions

Decree no. 72-678 of 20 July 1972 sets the conditions for obtaining and renewing the licence. The holder must in particular:

  • prove professional competence
  • hold a financial guarantee, which protects any funds held on behalf of clients
  • hold professional indemnity insurance
  • not be subject to any disqualification or ban

People who negotiate on the holder’s behalf, whether employees or independent agents, must be authorised and hold a certificate.

In a transaction

For vendors and buyers alike, the licence is the first thing to check: without it, an intermediary may neither carry on this activity nor claim fees. Its documents (mandates, teasers, memoranda, website) state the licence number, the issuing CCI, and the name and address of the financial guarantor. The fee schedule is displayed and available.

RR Hôtels & Finance holds the “Transactions sur immeubles et fonds de commerce” licence issued by the CCI Paris Île-de-France. Its regulatory information is published with our fee schedule.
